King Vidor and The Wizard of Oz

In February 1939, Victor Fleming left the filming of The Wizard of Oz to replace George Cukor as director of the troubled Gone with the Wind. (Cukor had been fired three weeks into filming.) Fleming's friend, King Vidor, was brought in to finish The Wizard of Oz. According to Wikipedia, "Although the film was a hit in 1939, Vidor chose not to take public credit for his contribution until his friend died in 1949."

The Wizard of Oz was released on 25 August 1939, Gone with the Wind less than four months later (15 December).
